Converlang is a postmodern language school.
Our main goal is to satisfy the needs of a world-globalization orientated
clientele and provide the best linguistic services we can possibly offer.
Our second-language teaching services are available in English, Spanish,
French, Japanese, German, Italian, Russian, etc...
Methodology
The focus is real language. Our approach to teaching language is organic. Student acquisition of linguistic structures and concepts is activated through a process of progressive repetition. In class student progress is marked through the repetition of increasingly difficult concepts and structures. In the classroom students and teacher all interact within the context of conversation and the atmosphere is cozy and the dynamic created very much like what happens in real-life conversation.
Small groups instruction is available
through a number of various programs. Courses generally consist of a minimum
total of ten three-hour classes. The number of classes a student attends
may vary anywhere from one a week to as many as eight to ten. Classes are
divided into two parts. The first hour or third consists in the discussion
of a grammatical concept, idiomatic expressions, vocabulary and themes.
The assimilation of these concepts is always done in the context of conversation
and for visual aid students are given copies of the material covered in
class. The remaining class time consists in free-flowing conversation during
the course of which the teacher may intervene to correct students' mistakes,
recapitulate, or act as a moderator and introduce new themes. The teacher
is present at all times during the lesson but it is the students who do
most of the talking.
About CONVERLANG teachers
CONVERLANG teachers all teach their native
language. All hold degrees in Education or related fields and are experienced
teachers. In class the only language spoken is the language which is being
taught.
Evaluation and Registration
In order to register, students must make
an appointment for a placement test. Evaluation is based on passive knowledge
and linguistic comptence in conversation. The testing process consists
of a short written test to evaluate students' passive knowledge of the
language and of an oral interview to test students' conversational skills.
